2 Days Safari

Tarangire and Ngorongoro

Day 1: Tarangire National Park

Your adventure begins with an early start from Arusha. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel, and you'll embark on a 2-3 hour drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its large herds of elephants and iconic baobab trees.

After a scenic drive through the Tanzanian countryside, you’ll enter Tarangire. Upon arrival, you’ll begin your first game drive. The morning hours are ideal for spotting wildlife as the animals are more active before the day heats up.

As you drive through the park, you can expect to see herds of elephants (Tarangire is famous for having one of the largest populations in Tanzania), zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, and predators like lions and leopards. The landscape is dotted with large baobab trees and the Tarangire River, which attracts a variety of animals.

Picnic Lunch – You’ll stop at a designated picnic spot with views of the wildlife for lunch. This break provides an opportunity to stretch your legs, relax, and take in the beauty of the park.

After lunch, you’ll continue exploring the park. In the afternoon, the heat will drive some animals toward the riverbanks, where they come to drink, offering great viewing and photographic opportunities. Look out for lions lounging in the shade or predators stalking prey.

In the late afternoon, you will leave Tarangire and drive to Mto wa Mbo or  Karatu (that depends on your accommodation choice). The journey takes about 1,5 hours, with scenic views along the way.

Check into your lodge for the night. Depending on your choice of accommodation, you may stay at a comfortable lodge or tented camp. Enjoy dinner and some relaxation time in the peaceful surroundings of the highlands.

After a long day of adventure, enjoy a hearty dinner at your lodge. Most lodges offer a variety of local and international dishes.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater Safari

After an early breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Crater. The drive from Karatu to the crater's entrance is about 45 minutes. Arriving early increases your chances of seeing more wildlife, as animals are most active in the cooler morning hours.

The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most stunning natural wildlife viewing areas in the world. As you descend into the crater, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the landscape and its rich wildlife.

Inside the crater, you can expect to see an incredible concentration of wildlife, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino). Other species include zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and flamingos around the crater’s soda lake. Ngorongoro is also one of the few places in Tanzania where you have a good chance of seeing the critically endangered black rhino.

Continue your game drive around the crater floor. Your guide will take you to different spots to view a variety of animals in their natural habitats. You might witness a lion hunt or spot elephants and buffalo grazing along the plains.

Picnic Lunch at Hippo Pool – Enjoy your lunch at one of the designated picnic sites, often near a hippo pool. Watch the hippos as they wallow in the water while you relax and take in the natural beauty around you.

After lunch, continue exploring the crater. The late afternoon offers great opportunities for photography, especially with the light casting a golden glow over the landscape.
– After your final game drive, you’ll start the journey back to Arusha. Enjoy the scenic drive back through the Ngorongoro Highlands. Your guide will point out interesting sights along the way.

You’ll return to Arusha by late afternoon or early evening, marking the end of your unforgettable two-day safari.
